There’s still plenty of summer left to up your beach or poolside style with these cover-ups, sandals, beach bags, and more.

The cover-up is the prelude to your bikini, so make it a good one! While it might be tempting to throw on an old dress or oversized t-shirt, I recommend investing in at least one true cover-up that will make you feel stylish whether you’re sipping drinks by the pool, hanging out on a boat, or taking a stroll on the beach.

While rocking jean cutoff shorts with your bikini top or one-piece is a classic look, I usually opt for comfort– and I find it’s much easier to slip on a loose-fitting dress or caftan like the above picks rather than a stiff pair of denim shorts, especially once you’ve covered yourself with sunblock and tanning oil.

The straw bag trend that has taken over the fashion world this summer has put a spotlight on beach bags, making it the ideal time to pick a stylish bag for yourself. I’ve already told you what’s inside my beach bag, but now let’s talk about the bags themselves. Netted tote bags are one design which look cool, though I would recommend these strictly for the pool, not the beach (unless you want your belongings getting covered in sand!).

Straw bags are a beachside classic, and this trend is no longer limited to just the beach, making them that much more versatile. Carry a straw basket bag with your daily summer looks (a sundress, jean shorts, etc.) for instant style points. For a boho-inspired look, textured, printed tote bags are the way to go. I also love the brands Sunnylife and ban.do for cute, unique cooler bags and other fun beach/pool accessories (see end of this post for more!).

Using random, old beach towels you found in your parent’s linen closet is all good until you want to take an aesthetically-pleasing beach pic for the ‘gram and realize those neon-colored seahorses on said towel are killing your vibe.

Instead, get yourself a grown-up towel which compliments your beach style; think stripes for the classic girl, geometric designs for the boho chick, etc. Some of my favorite picks are by Amuse Society, a brand known for their beach chic looks at reasonable price points. You may also want to get in on the round towel trend (as ridiculous as “towel trend” may sound…) which aren’t necessarily the most practical shape, but look super cool on the sand.

Your look isn’t complete without the right sandals, so trade your flip-flops in for a pair of fashion-forward slides in a waterproof material. I can’t recommend my first pick above, the rubber Birkenstock Eva, enough! This is the most versatile shoe to own, being that it’s ultra lightweight, waterproof, and can take you from the beach to the street while providing your foot with support (unlike flimsy flip-flops). These will be #1 on my packing list for any future vacations I take, when multi-tasking items are a must in order to maximize suitcase space. FYI in terms of sizing, I found myself in between my normal size and a size smaller; I opted to go down a size and am glad I did so, as I feel these shoes have stretched out a bit with wear.

In addition, Adidas slides are a classic, and the brand has released some cool, new covetable designs. These aren’t just summer shoes– I can see them looking perfect with any athleisurely looks in the spring and fall, as well. Leggings, an oversized hoodie, and a pair of these slides will make for a comfortable yet trendy look.
