My secret for achieving a flawless face tan.
Today I’m sharing with you my #1 favorite self-tanning products for the face: the James Read Express Glow Mask and H2O Tan Mist.
I have tried a ton of self-tanners for the face over the years– from brands including St. Tropez, Tarte, TanTowel, and Jergens– and none have given me a natural, even, yet deep tan that I’ve desired. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m particularly cautious when it comes to exposing my face to UV rays because I’m hell-bent on avoiding premature aging/wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and all the other negative effects caused by sun exposure. I wear a daily moisturizer with SPF all year round, and I cover up with hats and sunglasses during the summer when I’m at the beach or pool. This results in my face looking a few shades lighter than the rest of my body, which is annoying, but I know it’ll be worth it in the long run!
These two James Read tanning products have made it so that I don’t have to sacrifice the health and condition of my skin to be able to still look tan, whether it’s getting my face to look as tan as the rest of my body during the summer, or to achieve a glow during the winter. For a darker, more precise tan, the Express Glow Mask is my go-to product. It’s a clear, gel-like consistency which you smooth over your face and let it sit for 30-60 minutes and then wash off. The longer you leave it on, the darker your tan will be, and tends to last for 2-3 days. The only thing to note is that you have to ensure you cover every part of your face evenly, because if you miss a spot it will show, since this develops into such a dark color.
My #1 favorite product is the H2O Tanning Mist, which is especially perfect for the lazy girl, a.k.a. myself. There is no room for error with this clear spray, which you can even use as a makeup primer and/or setter, making it super easy to incorporate into your beauty routine. It features rose water and other hydrating minerals, combining skin care and a self-tan into one travel-friendly product. A few spritzes to your face every other day or so will build a nice hue– the more you spray, the darker and more immediate results you will see, depending on what you desire. I love that you can build up your color so quickly and easily, and that there is no science to when or how you spray. You can do it after applying your makeup or on a clean, bare face, and the tan somehow always looks even regardless of my misting abilities. Plus, it feels so much lighter on my skin compared to standard self-tanning lotions, which are often thick and feel like they’re clogging my pores.
Neither of these products have ever irritated my skin or caused me to break out, and they fade gradually and naturally.
